Review She's Country Strong: A Wilder Sisters series Standalone by Heatherly Bell
Country star Sabrina Wilder caused a mild scandal and now she needs a fixer to repair her good girl image. Cue Damien Caldwell (D.C.), a man on his last job, all set to retire from the world of fixing and ride out the rest of his life on his soon to be acquired ranch in Texas. He thinks his last job of fixing Sabrina will be easy. Little does he know that she's a little spitfire, all set to defy him from the very beginning. And make him fall. But wait...he doesn't do love or relationships, so he'll be fine. Right?
I have to admit, I might have had my expectations a bit too high for She's Country Strong. So take this review with as much or as little consideration as you feel. It just didn't live up to what I wanted. First off, the pace is off. It's super slow for about 3/4 of the story, and really only picks up right at the end. And for an enemies to lovers, it was REALLY tame. The cowboy aspect wasn't that present either, which really, is fine with me, though. I guess I just felt it was a bit too tame for my tastes. I wanted hot and delicious and what I got was...sweet and cute with a tiny (very tiny) bit of spice. Sabrina came across as naive at first, and a bit annoying, but she did grow on me by the end. Damien, though, did absolutely nothing for me. Sure, he was bossy, but as alphas go, he was weak sauce. And the heat? Lukewarm at best. Sigh...but the 3.5 stars comes from the fact that it's mostly well-written and I like that Sabrina grew a little. I can't say I'll be checking out the rest of this series, but don't think that I hated this one, or that it's awful or anything, because it's not. It's cute and sweet, so if that's your thing, check it out. If, however, you want a hot and witty enemies to lovers or cowboy story, you may want to look elsewhere.
