Review: Snowed In & Set Up by Whitley Cox

Review of Snowed In & Set Up by Whitley Cox

It's been a banner time for me as a reader lately because it's been mostly 4 and 5 star reads, and that is highly unusual. Whitley Cox's holiday offering this year has been my favorite holiday read in years. Three couples, 6 individuals, are set up by their mutual friend, Daisy, and end up snowed in at her lodge, where they proceed to find their match. Daisy has told them that her company's business is to set people up with their true match. Of course she hasn't told her six friends who is paired with whom, she wants them to figure that out for themselves. And 4 of them do figure it out, quickly. One hapless couple, though, falls to the sidelines, as Austin's big brain simply cannot comprehend that gorgeous, successful Hunter is his match. He's so besotted with her that he can barely utter a word to her or around her. He's seriously attracted to her, but she's completely out of his league, or so he thinks. Will he ever get over his insecurities and go and get his woman?

I fell in love with each couple - sweet, brainy Austin and his sassy, strong Hunter whose childhood has been less than ideal; successful fantasy author, Juney, and her match, the hotheaded, sexy chef, Rowan, who is Juney's biggest fanboy; and tough girl contractor, Amber, with a chip on her shoulder, and her match in commanding, dominant doctor, Will.

OK, I have to admit to not really liking Will, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment in reading this story, nor did it keep me from falling in love with each couple's journey to love. And that epilogue? It couldn't be less holiday-ish, but it's super sweet. I honestly think this is Whitley's best work to date, and that's high praise considering how much I love her previous stuff. So, if you want something sweet and sexy to warm up your holidays, I highly recommend you take a dive into Snowed In & Set Up.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
