Review of Mantis (K19 Security Solutions Book 4) by Heather Slade
When Mantis Cassman's best friend, Dutch, rescues him, Mantis knows he's not coming home to the woman he still loves because Alegria is with Dutch now. Talk about a clusterfuck! But Dutch knows in his heart of hearts that Alegria doesn't love him the way she loves Mantis. Will Dutch step aside so his best friend can have the future with the woman they both love that Alegria and Mantis have looked forward to since they all met years ago?
Although I've read the first story in this series, Razor, it didn't really affect my understanding of Mantis because I don't remember Razor that well aside from remembering I didn't like the heroine. So I'd say this is definitely a standalone within a series of interconnected standalone stories. I have mixed feelings about Mantis. I didn't connect with any of the leads and quite frankly, the idea that Alegria so quickly hooked up with her ex's best friend really irritated me. Yes, they were both single so technically it was OK, but yet, not really. There's a friendship code and both Alegria and Dutch stepped way across that line. Honestly, if I were Mantis, I wouldn't have been able to take her back knowing she so quickly hooked up with my best friend once I was gone.
So 3.5 stars because, although well written, I didn't connect with either of the leads and once again, I didn't like the heroine.
