This installment of the Cocky Hero Club disappointed me unfortunately. I didn't connect with either lead, and I downright disliked Maya. I did like their snark and all the sass going, and those things alone kept this from a lower rating.

Xander made one decision 12 years ago that unknowingly changed his entire future. Now he's about to come face to face with the consequences of that decision. The question is, will he forgive and understand why Maddie did what she did all those years ago? Or will he remain the cold CEO his uncle taught him to be?
As second chance romances go, this one is pretty wonderful. I really like the chemistry between Maddie and Xander, and I actually understand (if not condone) the decision she made, and why she made it. Luckily, Xander came to his own understanding, because it would have been a travesty if they had not gotten their true happy ever after. So why 4 and not 5 stars? The ending was a bit rushed and didn't give me enough of a complete story of Maddie's recuperation before she was racing to her HEA.

The last, and least wanted, person Jolene expected to see on one of her flights as an attendant is her former college boyfriend, Kane, the guy who broke her heart when he walked away from her with no regrets. But even though her body still reacts to him, she's not about to get involved with him again, doesn't even want to be in the same room as he. So why does she eventually agree to play his fake fiancée? Money of course. Money she needs for her mother's long term care. Not because she wants to really be engaged to the man who broke her heart...
But during the acting, perhaps those old feelings will come back. Maybe Jolene will see that Kane has changed from the heartless playboy he was in college. And maybe their second chance, fake engagement will end up in happiness after all.
Well this one was kind of a disappointment. I didn't feel the connection between the two characters. I didn't particularly like either character, no, scratch that, I definitely didn't like Jolene, and the story was just kind of boring.
But during the acting, perhaps those old feelings will come back. Maybe Jolene will see that Kane has changed from the heartless playboy he was in college. And maybe their second chance, fake engagement will end up in happiness after all.

Brett's first meeting with Autumn had him showing her his junk. No not like that...she was the doctor standing in for his usual doctor. He never got the beautiful Brit out of his mind then next thing you know, he's rescuing his new tenant from a fall in the tub, and guess who it is...yep, his beautiful Brit. But things won't be all lighthearted as their first two encounters, because both of them have some demons. She's got a past and so does he. Let's just hope he can save her from hers when she needs it most.
This is a fabulous addition to the Cocky Hero Club. I loved Brett and Autumn together. Both broken souls who needed someone to help lift each other up, be there unconditionally, and they found that in each other.
