Stella and Jack had to make the hardest decision of their young lives all those years ago. That decision has haunted Stella ever since. She's had to learn how to move on and accept that it was the best thing she could have done back then, but she's always been plagued by what could have been. Now Jack on the other hand - he acts as though it never happened and that she's nothing more than his best friend's little sister. Not that they have this huge thing between them. But really, it's not that huge if he acts as though it never happened. Right?
Of course, Stella doesn't know Jack's seemingly blasé demeanor is all just a cover for his real feelings, the ones he's never gotten over for the woman he's never gotten over, the woman he can never have, is not good enough for. Will he ever give into those feelings like he did that one night so long ago?
Damn, Stella and Jack's story was heartbreaking. Secrets kept from family can be life changing, and that's certainly what happened with them. They deserved happiness, though, and I loved reading as they finally found that happiness. Could Have Been Us is an emotional whirlwind with two very lovable characters that I just wanted to hug.
