Review / Release Blast: Just One Scandal (The Kingston Family #2) by Carly Phillips

Release Date: July 6

A jilted bride. Her brother’s ex-buddy. A fake affair would be crazy…right?

Chloe Kingston’s life is exactly how she needs it: safe and stable. Right up until her reliable, low-risk fiancé jilts her on their fairy-tale wedding day. As she works her way through the reception champagne—and wonders where she’s going to live—she stumbles into her brother Linc’s ex-best friend.

If only Beckett Daniels were hideous. But he’s not. He’s everything her erstwhile groom was not. Hot. Sexy. Dangerous. And she’s just buzzed enough to want all that Greek-god gorgeousness to show her the kind of fun she’s been missing.

Beck thrives on calculated risks, but taking advantage of Linc’s little sister isn’t one of them. What he can do is haul her tipsy, tulle-clad, tempting little butt to the bridal suite to sleep it off. Then move her into his spare room—which has the satisfying side effect of driving her brother crazy.

They can’t remain platonic roommates for long. Not when the sexual attraction sizzles out of control. But when tragedy threatens Beck, pain from his past reminds them both that life doesn’t come without risks…and this time, they’re gambling with their hearts.

MY REVIEW
After being jilted, by text no less, on her wedding day, Chloe realizes she's not really all that upset she's not marrying her ex. Sure, she's hurt at the way he handled it, but if anything, she's glad she's not marrying him, that he was only the safe choice, not the man who made her heart beat faster, not the man who gave her butterflies inside. Now what to do with her life? First, she'll party with her bridal party, drink all the alcohol that was supposed to be for the reception, all without her 3 older brothers hovering and making her feel suffocated like they always do with their well-intentioned but overwhelming concern. Luckily, a savior in the form of her eldest brother's former best friend and current business rival, Beck, comes along and gives her a place to stay after helping her drunk self up to a safe bed for the night. Will the two of them be able to cohabitate as just roommies and sort of friends? Or will their obvious attraction be too strong to ignore?

Beck has closed himself off to the idea of love and commitment since losing his sister when she was sixteen. He can't fathom loving again - and losing. So when Chloe comes along with her sunshiney personality and somehow slips through all his defenses, he knows he has to keep whatever's between them to casual fun. There's no way he can allow himself to feel anything but friendship toward her because losing her would be something he couldn't get past. Will Beck realize just what he's losing by keeping himself distant from Chloe when she's out of his life and out of his apartment? Or will he keep his heart frozen (and safe) the way he has for so long?

I loved Chloe and Beck together. She's the easy, bright light perfect for the heart Beck's kept protected for so long. And Beck's really a sweetheart, supporting her in ways her brothers never did. Short and sweet with heart, lots of steam and feeling like a much longer story than it actually is, Just One Scandal has me all excited for the next Kingston sibling to fall in love.

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...

You TV series

Wow, hubby and I watched You on Lifetime last night. It was creepy and suspenseful. Hubby likened it to Dexter , and I have to agree. Penn Badgley was on point - creepy, stalkery, but fascinating. I didn't think too much of Elizabeth Lail's acting, but I'm not sure if it was just that her character was bland, or if it was truly bad acting. Can't wait for next week!
