Review / Release Blitz: Sleight of Hand (Blackbridge Security #7) by Marie James

Release Date: October 26

Gaige Ward, acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security, obtains things for the team.

As far as your mind can take you is how far he can go.

If it exists, he can get his hands on it.

If he can’t, he’ll find someone who can.

He never fails.

As with all things when growing in popularity, Blackbridge is also taking on scrutiny.

His boss, in an attempt to counter being called misogynistic and discriminatory against women, needs a female with the ability to handle the same tasks his guys can.

Leighton Redmond fits the bill perfectly.

Only, according to her she isn’t for sale, for employment or otherwise.

Gaige loves a challenge but has NEVER had to fight so hard to procure something for his boss.

Maybe next time he’ll think twice before having a one-night stand the day before a very important business meeting…

MY REVIEW
Gaige's hot one night stand has now come back to bite him in the ass. But how was he to know the woman he had the best night of his life with, then promptly put pain in her eyes by leading her to believe he was married, would be the woman his boss was trying to hire? Now she stands in front of him and his boss, and it's obvious his lie is going to put a crimp in his boss's plan to get her on board at their company as its executive recruiter. Yeah...

Leighton had the most amazing night of her life. Then the guy she had it with turned around and broke her right after. Now he stands in front of her trying to help convince her to come work at his company?!? Not on her life. She's already had her heart broken by a cheating man, thanks Dad, she's not about to work with one and expose herself to the pain another cheater could bring her. But what about when she finds out she has nothing to fall back on, and needs to accept the job? Can she really work with "John" without wanting to smack him, or even worse, or jump back into his arms?

I liked this story, but did not love it. Why? One word - Gaige. He came across as a misogynistic douchebag for most of the story. I wanted to smack him quite frankly, and thought Leighton could have done so much better. That being said, he sorta redeemed himself by the end, and there were definitely things about him that spoke to good, like his family, especially his Lala, and his relationship with them, and his relationship with the guys at Blackbridge. There is little to no suspense here, which was a surprise given this is a private security series, so the relationship is the entire story. I'm not sure that was the best choice considering what a jerk Gaige was for the most part. Still, I really like Leighton, and the story itself, and cannot wait for Finnegan's story, Controlled Burn.

Meet Marie James
I'm inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we're doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master's degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there's usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I'm not writing; I'm reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I'm reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it's gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.

Review: Waiting for You by Kate McBrien

Review of Waiting for You by Kate McBrien Justin and Lucy are apart, but for how long? Lucy's staying with her parents, but knows she needs to get out and start living her life again. But when she gets a chance to go to London, it just may be her chance to reunite with the man whose soul has been entwined with hers for centuries upon centuries. But first, our two fated lovers will have to not only reunite, but stay together, beat the odds and the people and/or forces who are trying to keep them apart. Waiting for You is a great followup to Discovering You. Justin and Lucy's story is exciting and passionate, and the mystical/fantasy/paranormal aspect just adds another interesting layer to their already wonderful connection. I normally don't read a lot of paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi romance anymore, but I loved it here in Waiting for You. It's subtle, but ever present and as I said, just makes their story all the more intriguing. I can't wait for the conclusio...
