Review / Release Blitz: The Love Plot by Samantha Young

The Love Plot by Samantha Young is now live!

There’s a magnetic attraction when a happy-go-lucky gig worker agrees to a fake relationship with a rich, uptight New Yorker in this steamy romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young.

Star Shine Meadows is all about freedom, thanks to the hippie parents who raised her. Juggling her jobs as a professional costume character actor and a line sitter, she believes in no expectations, no stressful ambitions, and no-strings-attached relationships. So when she meets a birthday girl’s grumpy uncle while working a princess party, she can’t help but needle him. She’ll never see him again, and honestly, he's pretty hot.

Rafe Whitman may be a veterinarian with a great bedside manner, but that doesn’t mean his patience extends to anyone with opposable thumbs. His family will not stop nagging him about finding “the one,” so when he runs into obnoxiously cheery Star again, he makes her an offer: He’ll pay her more than she would make doing her odd jobs if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend at family gatherings. She can stop sitting in line waiting for someone else’s new phone, and he’ll get his family off his back.

When the tension between them heats to a breaking point, Star’s desire for "no strings" is tested against Rafe’s staunch stability. They say opposites attract, after all....

MY REVIEW

Extra grumpy meets extra sunshine when Star first meets gorgeous asshole Rafe, and let's just say neither is exactly impressed with the other. Their next meeting isn't exactly positive either, except he decides he's going to ask her to be his fake girlfriend. What?! He needs his meddling family, mostly also jerks, off his back, and Star is apparently the perfect person for the job. How can enemies turn fake to real when they are so opposite that they can't possibly work?

Star was raised by hippie parents in a poly relationship who were so selfish and neglectful that Star essentially raised herself. This has lead to her disdaining commitment, which has in turn lead to her not really knowing what she wants to do with her life aside from being happy. Rafe, on the other hand, is pretty much her opposite - serious, stern and grumpy. So of course their banter is snarky, funny and full of tension. Time will tell if they can make a real relationship work.

Fake dating, enemies to lovers and grumpy/sunshine?!? Three of my favorite tropes all in one fun, witty, adorable rom-com. Rafe was truly horrible in the beginning, but as the pages flipped and his real personality came out, I was able to give him a pass. Star, oh Star, that girl had so much damage done to her by her parents, that I wanted to hug her. I love that Rafe really stuck up for her to his family, gave her some of the support she had lacked in her childhood. All told, this is a story I'd love to read again because it's that entertaining.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
