When Piper's best friend lets her down when she needs him most, she sends him away, telling him not to come back until he's gotten himself together. Well, he's back now and all he wants is to prove himself to her and her son. But what Adam doesn't know is that Piper has invisible (and visible) scars that may keep her from letting him back in. He'll have to work harder than he ever has to claim the love of his life.

Adam left when Piper threw him out of her life. But he didn't go and continue his bad behavior. No, he joined the military and made himself into the kind of man she deserves. I found my favorite couple in this series! Piper and Adam (and Ryan) have to go through so much that my heart hurt for them, especially Piper. She has this huge secret she's lived with for years, one that's caused her an immense amount of pain, and has caused her to keep a little bit of herself from everyone she loves. Then her best friend comes home and their road, though bumpy, is clear - they're in love and always have been - they just have to do the extra bit of work, and find a little luck, to finally get on the same page. But as much as I love Piper and Adam as a couple and individually, my very favorite part of their story is Ryan and the bond he has with his two parents. He's so adorable but not in the cheesy way of so much fiction, and his bright spirit lifts everyone around him and lifts the entire story. I absolutely adore this sweet, spicy, and heartfelt story and the three people at its center.
