BLURB
A former marine hitchhiking home. A footloose woman passing by. Their love was fated, but their future doomed.

Rae Williams never thought she would stop running. For years she looked over her shoulder, afraid her brutal history would catch up to her. Until Beau. For the first time in her life, she feels safe and loved. But when her past rears its ugly head, it puts the lives of the people she loves in jeopardy.

Beau Stirling swore off women years ago, and over the intervening period, no one has challenged his decision. Until Rae. He falls for the troubled woman, loving her while she wrestles with the nameless demons plaguing her dreams. But his life shatters when she disappears, leaving nothing but a cruel note.

And when Rae returns years later begging for his protection, Beau vows to fight the pull of love. His resolve slowly crumbles when she reveals the violent secrets that have held her captive since childhood.

Can they rebuild their marriage, or will the scars of betrayal and abandonment prove too deep?

MY REVIEW

Rae has been running for so long when she meets a hitchhiker and his wounded dog. She knows she can't stick around, lest her past catch up with her and put him in danger, but she simply can't resist Beau, Kismet the dog, and his small town who welcome her so easily. When that past does catch up with her, she knows she has to run, even though she it means she has to possibly never see Beau again - because protecting him is more important than being with him. Now she's back in town years later, wondering if Beau will throw her out as soon as he lays eyes on her. She needs his protection, and hopes against hope they can rebuild their relationship.

Beau has never gotten over (or forgiven) his wife. All she left was a note, then disappeared until now when she waltzes back into town. His anger isn't something that he can just get rid of, but he's slowly remembering why he fell so hard for her, and having a hard time keeping his heart behind the wall he erected when she left. And it further crumbles when she finally reveals what took her away from him all those years ago. Can he help heal Rae, and protect her at the same time?

Back in 2021, when I read Oliver and Sunny's story, Noble Neighbor, I absolutely fell in love with their small town of Clearbrook and its people. So diving back into it again has been an absolute pleasure. Rae's life was unspeakably horrible when she was growing up, but like the fierce, strong woman she became, she overcame it and found love. I hurt for Beau when she left, but thankfully she was able to find her way back and Beau was able to forgive her and let himself love her again. I really hope Nicole writes more about Clearbrook soon!

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
