Review / Release Blitz: Older by Jennifer Hartmann

Older by Jennifer Hartmann is now live!

Before he discovered my age, he uncovered my heart.

Bruised and abused, and victim to a loveless household, I shimmered with new life the moment he found me drowning my sorrows in a lake beneath the stars.

A chance encounter. An unspoken connection.

I was smitten; he was curious.

But, as everyone knew, fate could be decidedly cruel.

He called me Halley, like the comet.

I called him Reed.

And my best friend?

Well...she called him Dad.

Older is a forbidden, slow-burn, age-gap romance standalone, ending in a HEA.

MY REVIEW

The first time Halley and Reed meet, a connection is forged that could not come at worse timing. There's a huge age gap, and her best friend happens to be his daughter. But though they don't do anything but meet that first time, inevitably, they will come to mean more to each other than is acceptable given the circumstances.

I have to admit that age gap is not normally one of my preferred romantic tropes. The younger character is usually not just younger, but a lot less mature, and at such a different life stage than the older character, that they're incompatible. But it works well here because of Halley's maturity. She had such horrible life experiences that forced her to mature and grow up much quicker than most people her age. Though she went through so much early on, those experiences only molded her into an amazing woman. There really isn't anyone more perfect for her than Reed, they are true soulmates. I love them together, their story is where the bar should be from now on for age gap romances because it has everything - two beautiful, flawed and realistic characters, more than their fair share of angst, and a slow burn with chemistry that simmered with longing. I haven't read a lot by this author, but after falling so hard for Reed and Halley, I am now going to delve into her backlist and read anything in the future I can get my hands on.

Meet Jennifer

Jennifer Hartmann resides in northern Illinois with her own personal romance hero and three children. When she is not writing angsty love stories, she is likely pondering all the ways she can break your heart and piece it back together again. She enjoys sunsets (because mornings are hard), bike riding, traveling, bingeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns, and that time of day when coffee gets replaced by wine. She loves tacos. She also really, really wants to pet your dog.

Cover Reveal: A Little Luck by Tia Louise

Tia Louise has revealed the covers for A Little Luck! Releasing December 14, 2023 Adam Stone is not a saint. He’s six-foot-two, naughty blue eyes, cocky grin, and a bod blessed by the gods. He’s a surfer, a soldier, a pilot, and he’s been my friend since I moved to our small town when we were just kids. But another man took my hand. He took my innocence, took my trust, and broke my heart. I was young. I didn’t know love could be a weapon. I didn’t know the hand that caressed you could also cut you. Now that man is dead, and I’m a single-mom survivor wearing a mask so perfect, no one knows the truth. Trust doesn’t come easy, and surviving is a hard habit to break. But when a plumbing disaster leaves me homeless, one night in Adam Stone’s (supposedly) empty bed changes everything. I’ve hidden my scars so long, I don’t know how else to be, but I want to try. I’m in love with Adam Stone. I love every glance, every wink, every furtive touch… He says he’s different. He sa
