Review / Release Blitz: Falling for Red (High Five Novella #5) by Serena Pier

Falling for Red by Serena Pier is now live!

“You always this stubborn?”
“You always this annoying?”

Thirty-four-year-old Claire Moore feels like her life is going up in flames. A newly single mom, she’s juggling a sick kid and a bartending shift when a fire breaks out at High Five in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Per usual, she has to save the day.

Enter Jake Schmidt: local firefighter, Marine veteran, and all around good guy who’s distracted by the captivating, strong, sassy, red-headed woman who manages to put out the fire moments before he arrives. And despite their tense first impression, he’s determined to win her over.

This blond guy isn’t her usual type, but with the chemistry building by the day, she has to decide if she wants to let him in. Trusting someone new isn’t easy, especially when you’ve been burned before.

This heartfelt Fourth of July romance is perfect for fans of strong heroines, golden retriever heroes, protagonists in their thirties, and steamy small town summer nights.

MY REVIEW

Claire doesn't trust people, nor let them into her life and heart. The only person who really matters is her adorable daughter. Then after a fire at the bar where she works, a blond golden retriever of a firefighter blazes his way into her life. He seems intent on proving to her that he can be the man for her, and her daughter. But how can she trust him, when everyone in her life has let her down?

Jake is falling hard for his Sparky. But she's skittish, untrusting, and keeping him (and everyone) at a distance. If he can convince her by using pleasure, perhaps she'll see just how much more they can be, how they can have it all, not just missions in fun.

Jake is the hottest, sweetest golden retriever I've read in a long time. He's by far the best part of his story. These High Five novellas are all so fun and entertaining, and I've been loving them so far, but I have to admit this one is my least favorite so far, though, because Claire is my least favorite heroine in them. She's a little too untrusting, constantly looking for red flags, and never lets up until the very end. But Jake, being the sweet, dirty guy he is, saved the story. Sharing Shadow Secrets is next, and the blurb sounds intriguing!

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
