Review of Come to Daddy (Love Don't Cost a Thing, Book 1) by Brianna Hale
Misha feels for the girl his ruthless brother has targeted for revenge, so he engineers (thanks to the help of his trusty assistant) a way for Damir's mark to receive the money her family supposedly owes his brother. The way? He'll be Ciara's sugar daddy. But it's to be just an arrangement, cold and clinical, with no feelings involved...Yeah right, as if THAT ever happens.
I have to qualify this review by saying first that the daddy thing is one of my absolute least favorite of all the romance tropes. Daddy play is just creepy to me. Not age gaps in general, but the whole come to DADDY thing where the man makes the girl call him daddy and he treats her like his little girl. Just no. BUT, this wasn't really like that, or it didn't end up being like that at least. Yes, they started off with a sugar arrangement, and the age gap is 20 years, but they felt like equals and they loved like true partners, even after Misha's big secret came out.
I ended up really liking Come to Daddy and that's a huge surprise to me. It's very sexy of course, but it's got a lot of substance, too, and lots of heart. Misha and Ciara are amazing characters who exhibit depth and are far more complicated than the title would suggest. I haven't read anything else by this author, but if all her stuff is as good as this one is, then I will definitely be reading more!
