Review of Surrender: The Hunter Series #3 by S.E. Cooper
When Kerr spies a beautiful redhead on New Year's Eve, he thinks she'll be his next conquest. Never did he imagine she was not only someone already in his life (even if on the fringes) and that she'd be the one to whom he'd give his heart. But when his determined pursuit of her lands her in the hospital, suddenly his heart and his life are turned upside down and inside out. He can't get the beautiful Sloane out of his mind to the tune of paying for her hospital expenses AND her mother's medical expenses, but yet not really appearing back in her life til months later.
Poor Sloane has crushed on her boss' brother forever now. But he flusters her so much that she hides every time he appears in his sister's shop where Sloane works. To the tune that he never really glimpses her face so doesn't recognize her that New Year's Eve. But when the man freaks her out so much that she bolts when he chases after her, and results in landing her in the hospital, she never expects that suddenly the man of her dreams is interested in her. But then he disappears again and she figures her life will go back to normal, never knowing that Kerr still has plans for her, for them. Unfortunately, those plans are not what Sloane has always wanted - the white picket fence and the home and the family and all that jazz. But, she just might take what little Kerr can offer her, even if it means she'll have a broken heart at the end of their fling.
I loved Surrender! I haven't read any of the other stories in this series, but it was really easy to figure out what was going on in this one, so it's a standalone for the most part. Kerr was frustrating as hell, but when his backstory was revealed, I sympathized with him and gave him a big pass even though he had broken Sloane's heart because of his stupid behavior. Luckily the author didn't inject too much angst, and allowed Sloane and Kerr to easily come back into each other's lives. I thought Surrender was fabulous - sexy, emotionally layered with a great cast of primary and secondary characters.
