Review: The Inheritance (Port Henry #1) by Amy Briggs
When Riley's mentor of sorts passes and leaves her his entire estate, which includes a beach house, and a big, clumsy, but lovable Great Dane puppy named Scrappy, she's entirely unsure what to make of the entire situation. So she heads out to Port Henry to take stock of her new life. What she finds just may be the best thing (person) to ever happen to her.
When I read the prequel to The Inheritance in the One Hot Summer Anthology, I knew I had to read the full length novel to come, and I'm glad I got the chance, because I wasn't disappointed with how it all played out. The only thing that could have made it better is if there hadn't been a huge cliffhanger (YES, unfortunately, I said there's a freaking CLIFFHANGER!) and I now have to wait for another installment to find out how Riley reacts to the bombshell Bernard laid on her at the end of The Inheritance.
Riley, Donovan, Scrappy, Bernard, and Toni make for very entertaining reading. I especially loved how Donovan is just this really sweet veterinarian who is flummoxed by the newcomer Riley, and fumbles around trying to get her to stay in Port Henry without actually telling her that's what he's doing. And the secondary characters of Toni, Donovan's assistant and friend, Bernard the butler of sorts who's like this wise older man with all the answers and love for his now deceased friend and employer...yeah, this is a complete world here, and I'm dying to know what happens next!
