Hailee and Aiden were children who started off as neighbors who couldn't stand each other. But that didn't last long, and they soon became the best of friends. As happens, friends evolved into first love, and it was glorious in the way first love is. But Aiden was heading to Hollywood stardom, and there's no way she could keep him from that dream. Now it's 5 years later and Aiden's back in their hometown and Hailee's still there. She's grown up, confident, and happy. She knows she has to see her first (only) love again and she's dreading having to face the man whose heart she broke.
Aiden's come home. He needs to be near his roots and away from Hollywood. He doesn't want to see Hailee, the woman he says he hates, the one he still misses and has never gotten over. But when a huge revelation rocks his thinking, he knows he needs Hailee back in his life. If only she'd let him back in...
Ahhhh these two. So sweet together with the way they picked on each other lovingly, were each other's rocks, well, before they broke up and after they got back together, and how they loved each other their entire lives. Brittainy tends to emotionally complex and lovable characters, and Aiden and Hailee were exactly that - lovable and emotionally complex. Mental and emotional health were front and center, and I love how in the present, Hailee had learned that her health was the most important, not to let what the world thought make her doubt herself or to fall back on old insecurities. Aiden was better off for knowing her, and having her help him to a healing place. I loved this slow burn, second chance love story, the epic journey that Hailee and Aiden take in Northern Stars.
