From the New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster comes a funny, sexy romantic comedy featuring a twice-divorced, stressed-out romance writer who finds out that sometimes true love can be a hot mess.

Who buys a cottage in a New England fishing village on a whim? A stressed-out, twice-divorced romance writer and single mother looking for a fresh start, that’s who. Despite what my besties say about my three-year dry spell, I’m not looking for a man. Or drama. Or sex. I’ve got enough on my plate with writer’s block and a daughter who refuses to grow up. Community. That’s what I need. Unfortunately, it seems the universe has other ideas. Either Chatemup, Massachusetts, has a serious shortage of single women, or I’ve become a hot mess magnet for the male species.

At least I’ve found one funny, good-hearted friend: fish peddler Declan Miller, my brainstorming adventure buddy who stirs my creative juices. I’m his Writer Girl. He’s my Dimple Dude. Just scruffy, granite-chested, deep-voiced, ex-military brawn who happens to be—oh, Nicole, what are you doing to yourself?—stoking a long-neglected fire without even trying.

A self-confessed hot mess, divorced single dad Declan is too old for relationship games. Not interested. Same here. So why do I keep thinking about him? Preferably naked. Because I’m a hot mess, too? At least he’s inspiring me to write. If only real life were like one of my novels. At least then I’d have a better idea of how this was going to end.

MY REVIEW

Nicole's taking back her life - bought a house in a small East Coast village, and is determined to spend the summer there rejuvenating her writing muse, which has seemed to have deserted her lately. She isn't looking for a man, a relationship or anything in that realm. Her friends who have come with her to spend awhile, though, keep urging her to put herself out there. She seems to have attracted more than one attractive man, but it's a rough around the edges fish peddler named Declan who is sticking in her mind. He doesn't want an entanglement any more than she does, so the two will just have to agree to adventures with no strings. Until more is inevitable, until they can no longer resist. But can they truly maintain a no strings relationship? What will Nicole do when it's clear that Declan's ex-wife is far more a priority than she is?

Declan's always been the savior. He saves his dad from the consequences of his drinking. He saves his ex-wife from, well, everything, so when does he do for himself? When a gorgeous newcomer appears in town, just maybe he can do something for himself by letting himself have something with the most interesting adventure he's ever laid eyes on. But to do so, he'll need to make sure his priority list is in order or he'll lose her.

Hot Mess may be a romantic comedy, but it has more heart and emotional depth than the average humorous piece of fiction. Declan, oh Declan, that man is just such a sweet lug with so many issues and has his head buried in the sand until this equally sweet "hot mess" comes along and gently brings his head out of the fog. The fact that the both of them aren't in their 20s is actually something I really enjoyed - they act like mature adults rather than whiny, entitled brats that 20 somethings can many times come across as, and this speaks to my heart *ahem 40 something here*. Melissa never fails to bring the heat, the feels, and the love - it's why she's one of my absolute favorite writers!

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Title: The Challenge: A Single Dad Romance Author: Penelope Ward Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance Tropes: Single Dad, Second Chance, Forced Proximity Friends to Lovers, Small Town, Found Family Release Date: August 30, 2026 BLURB From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE contemporary romance… Nothing says welcome home like accidentally moving in with your first heartbreak…and his little girl. Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
