Review of Doggy Style (Rescue Me Book 1) by Alana Albertson
Preston's a former Marine who's using his notoriety to open a dog store, specifically selling puppies that come from breeders. His claim to fame comes from a sex tape leaked (he thinks by his famous ex) that shows him using a certain, ahem, aptly named dog position. He's a player and a commitment phobe but he's got a good heart. Yessi is the opposite of Preston. She's a former tattoo artist who runs a dog rescue and she's spitting mad when she finds out he's opening a store that will only sell dogs that come from a puppy mill (dog breeder). So handcuffing herself to his store seems like just the thing to do. And actually it is, because it gives Preston an idea to use her to help him convince an investor he needs for his new store. That they're madly attracted to each other is just some delicious icing on an already convenient cake of a situation.
Neither counted on that attraction leading into actual feelings, though. And can these two really manage a relationship anyway? When he's a manwhore (or possibly reformed) and she's slow to trust? When it seems someone has it out for them?
I mostly enjoyed Doggy Style. I have to say, though, that it's not really the rom com that I thought it would be. For one, it's not really funny, although it is kinda fluffy in that their relationship isn't exactly that deep or anything. There's a lot of insta-lust going on, and I didn't really believe they loved each other, although I do think they were heading in that direction and will probably get there at some point. And the whole dog rescue thing was definitely not funny or fluffy. It's a pretty heavy subject, actually, one that I enjoyed reading about, as I'm a huge advocate for only adopting rescued pets. I did like Doggy Style, so I hope I didn't give the wrong impression, I just didn't love it and it wasn't the fluffy rom com I was expecting. It is well-written, though, and I liked Preston and Yessi, Yessi to a lesser extent, though. I will probably continue with the series and hope it's as entertaining as Doggy Style is.
