Review of JOCK (Boston Terriers Book 5) by Jacob Chance
When Owen Dawson is suspended from Boston U's football team, then attacked afterward, he is naturally a little down on life. Until he meets the cute girl who's going to tutor him while he catches up with the schoolwork he missed out on while in the hospital. Eliza has the wrong idea about Owen. She figures he is the typical cocky manwhore football player that all jocks are. Until she starts tutoring him and finds out he's actually a sweetheart with a huge heart. As the two fall effortlessly into first friendship, then more, I was cheering them on because they were so cute together.
But Eliza had more than one secret she hadn't let Owen in on and I was cringing because I knew when the bombshells were dropped on him, he wasn't going to react well, and he didn't. But it was understandable, because Eliza's secrets were pretty big, and significant to him in unpleasant ways, especially her last secret. I honestly wanted to shake her for not owning up to things much earlier in their relationship, but I could also understand her perspective, so I was torn. Luckily for her, Owen was more understanding than the average 21-year-old male, and he loved her, so he was able to get past her secrets.
I've been lucky lately with the New Adult stuff I've been reading because this is the second one that I've loved, that is full of depth and heart and wonderful characters. Owen and Eliza and all the secondary cast, are amazing, especially Owen! The man is so damn swoony that it was hard to remember how young he was. I love how gently and patiently he wooed Eliza, and how completely understanding he was. Yes, he reacted pretty badly to her secrets, but he could have reacted much worse and she honestly would have deserved it for keeping such huge things from him. He really is one of the best heroes I've read lately. I haven't read any of the other stories in the Boston Terriers series, but I plan to now that I've fallen in love with Owen and his friends!
