Review of Mr. Spencer by T.L. Swan
Charlotte is a sheltered, naive young woman whose father and brothers are beyond overprotective, when she meets a hot, older man at a benefit her father forced her into attending. The kiss he lays on her that night stays with her, but she knows better than to get involved with a man who has a different woman on his arm in every picture splashed in the tabloids.
I loved Mr. Spencer. It's a tried and true trope - manwhore brought to his knees by young virgin, but it's still such a readable story. Spencer in particular, was a lovable character even though he was such a serious manwhore in the beginning that I wanted to smack him, and later toward the end when his past playboy antics brought the both of them such pain, but I ended falling in love with him as much as I didn't want to at first. Charlotte, too, was pretty great. She was kind of stupid at the end, so much so that she prolonged their pain, but I could empathize with her so I gave her a pass. Really the only thing that brought this down a star for me was the rushed ending. As much as I loved the epilogue, I felt that the last little bit rushed to that epilogue, so I just couldn't fairly give it 5 stars. Aside from that, though, Mr. Spencer is the perfect contemporary romance - lots of chemistry and a great cast of characters.
