Review of Overture (North Security Book 1) by Skye Warren
As her 18th birthday creeps ever closer, violin prodigy Samantha's feelings for her guardian, Liam, intensify. But she knows her feelings toward him aren't reciprocated. Oh sure, he's protective of her, but he doesn't see her as anything other than a child, his ward.
Liam is enigmatic, stern, cold even, and very much has decidedly unguardian-like feelings toward his young ward. Feelings he doesn't ever plan on indulging. But there's something about Samantha - she may be young and even fragile, but she's also very emotionally mature and, as Liam realizes later,
"She's a warrior. A goddess. I want to fall at her feet in supplication." So when circumstances force his protective instincts to the fore, it was inevitable that their feelings would be consummated. And I was cheering, even as I had a feeling not all would end well.
I was riveted by this first part of Samantha and Liam's story. The tension between these two is thick with electricity, the secrets roiling around beneath the surface need to be revealed, and I fell in love with both of them, especially Liam. That man is YUM! I knew Overture would end without the resolution I wanted, as this is a trilogy (I think), and when the end came I was disheartened. Not because I was disappointed in the story, but because I was disappointed it had to end. I want the next part now because this one was just the tip of the iceberg of what I know is going to be an epic story of love. My Kindle will be waiting very impatiently for more Liam and Samantha deliciousness!
