Review of At War with a Broken Heart by Dahlia Donovan
Davet is a young man on the spectrum who spends his days tending to his coffee shop and worrying about his brother, also on the spectrum, Fraco. He's had a slight crush on two older men in his village - Fie, a vet who makes mugs and has PTSD and survivor's guilt from his time in the military, and Sid, from Fie's same military squad, who's now a police detective in their village. Sid and Fie have a slight history, friendly and night of more than friendly. They both have noticed Davet, and somehow the three of them end up in a lovely, sweet relationship.
But it won't be easy going because all three men have various obstacles in their own lives: Fie's PTSD, Davet's autism and worrying over his brother, and Sid's bigoted father. Can the three of them make it work, will their village be accepting of a MMM relationship?
I loved this story. It's so naturally written, the relationship between the three develops so organically, and all three men felt authentic, real, and were infinitely lovable, both individually and as a threesome. It's not super sexy, but the steam isn't really missed, as the relationship works without a ton of steam because the emotions and each character just meshed together perfectly. I am definitely going to read more by this author!
