PERKY

Persephone (aka Perky) was having a good time at her friends' Mallory and Wills' rehearsal rehearsal dinner. And then her ex from hell, the man who smashed her heart into smithereens when he leaked a very intimate pic of her that was made into a heinous meme that still gets her side-eyes and dudebro leers even though it's been 5 years, strolls into the place and proceeds to lay a kiss on her. Um what....

Ryker is still very much in love with Persephone. She left a huge hole in his heart when she ghosted him 5 years ago. Now that she's right in front of him again, he's not going to let her go. But, can he show her that not only does he still love her, but that he is innocent of the horrible thing she thinks he did to her that made her ghost him?

Perky knows she's still in love with Ryker, but her heart just cannot seem to forgive him. So what if he insists he's innocent. So what if her best friends Mallory and Fiona think that just maybe she should believe him. So what if Fiona's dowser insists that she should unstick herself and let everything go. So she comes up with a little plan of revenge. Yeah...as if those plans don't always go awry.

Perky was seriously a hoot. She and her two besties have that kind of connection that only the very best and familiar kind of friends have. The way they gave each other so much shit had me cracking up. If Perky was made into a rom-com movie, I'd definitely watch it even if only for Perky, Fiona, and Mallory's snark. But I can't forget about the actual romance part of this rom-com, because it's fabulous. Ryker and Perky had so much chemistry, so much love for each other. It was obvious from their very first reunion, clear to the last page. I love how sweet Ryker was with crazy, no-filter Perky, and how much in love they still were. Rom-coms can be iffy if the com isn't balanced properly with the rom, but it's perfectly balanced here. It's sexy, it's snarky and funny af, and all the characters, from Perky and Ryker, their friends Mallory, Fiona and Will, down to Perky's put-upon boss, Raul, round out this entertaining second chance love story. Now I am waiting very anxiously for Feisty, Fiona's story.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
