Review: You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico
Sydney is floored when her boss, her mentor, her father figure, tells her that not only is he dying, but that he wants her to marry his son, Scott. Um yeah...let her wrap her mind around this for a minute. She can barely contemplate life without Frank, let alone marrying his worthless son, whom she despises (the feeling is mutual). But, Frank is the only person who has never let her down, so she's going to abide by his wishes, do this for him. No matter that Scott is not even close to the kind of man she wants or sees in her future. But for Frank, she'll do just about anything.
When Sydney arrives in Jackson Hole to start off her fake relationship with Scott, she finds that perhaps he's not the hard-partying loser he once had been, but he's still an ass. An ass who doesn't want to marry her any more than she wants to marry him. But if she wants to become the new head of Blackstone Holdings she has to pull off the biggest fakeout of her life. If Scott wants to not lose everything he holds dear, he has to pretend he actually loves uptight, vanilla Sydney. What neither expected, or wanted, was to find they had an unexpected, fierce attraction to each other. Can they put forth this farce without losing their hearts to each other?
Fake relationship and enemies to lovers are two of my favorite tropes. Why? Well, simply put, because of stories exactly like You Can Have Manhattan. The delicious push and pull, the ust, the angst, the will they/won't they...it's all just so yummy and addicting when done right. And Paola Dangelico more than does it right here in You Can Have Manhattan, she does it PERFECTLY!! because this story is a slow burn piece of downright decadent storytelling, complete with the requisite hot and cold, I hate you, I love you, I want to boink your brains out tension, all in front of a backdrop of heartbreak waiting around the corner. This is by far my favorite story by her, and I cannot wait to see what she's got for her readers next!
