MY REVIEW

Angelica is just a young girl when she comes to the US from Mexico. Left with her cousins by her older brother, Beto, after their beloved mother passes away, she's immeasurably sad the day she meets her soulmate, Deacon Dring, and he lays one forbidden kiss on her. Forbidden because, as she soon finds out, her family and his are locked in a feud with origins her generation doesn't even know. But the two will keep that kiss close to their hearts, as it's the start of their lifelong love story. These two from opposite worlds, their love forbidden by their families, by society.

Deacon never wavers from his love for his Angelica. He supports her artistic talent, he wants her to flourish, regardless of what his family (and hers) might have to say about them being together. But still, they have to keep their love a secret until the time is right for them to come out to the public. He'll get to the bottom of their families' feud, though, so that perhaps they can start a new era of peace between them. Will their families ever come to accept them? Accept their love?

Intense, emotional, a story that in this time of the calling for social and racial equality and justice, strikes a significant chord in my heart. I love that Angelica and Deacon loved each other without caring that they are of different races and different socio-economic classes. Their love is true and beautiful and gave me all the feels. Tia's writing is always heartfelt and sexy, but perhaps none more so than here in Angelica and Deacon's Hatfield and McCoys/Romeo and Juliet style love story. I will not soon forget this amazing couple and their world of love and art set within a backdrop of feuding families, racial and social differences be damned.
