MY REVIEW

Athena's not ready to face her ex, but she has no choice. He's her brother's best friend and best man, so he's coming home to be in her brother's wedding. Thank God for her best friend, who agrees to be her fake boyfriend so she can save face when Kris and his plastic girlfriend show up.

Kris may have moved on from missing Athena (or so he thinks), but that doesn't mean the sight of her doesn't make his heart miss a few beats. Will his stay in their hometown make him feel like he never should have left? Will Athena give him the second chance it seems his heart wants?

I'm a bit torn about how to rate Powerful. On one hand, I like the world Powerful presented and found the story entertaining. On the other hand, I failed to sense a strong connection between Athena and Kris, and I hated how easily she forgave him and gave him a second chance. I wanted him to GROVEL his ass off, feel at least half the pain she felt when he ghosted her. But nope. And he had the nerve to show up with a girlfriend, a very unpleasant girlfriend at that. If he had really respected her and his best friend, he would not have shown up with a woman he knew would be ridiculously rude, wouldn't have shown up with another woman at all. Sigh...still, I basically liked Powerful, and it's well-written, so 3.5 stars seems to be as fair as I can rate it.
