Review / Release Blitz: Dirty Little Secret (Lake Street University #1) by Rachael Brownell

Release Date: September 9

He’s my brother’s best friend.
Which makes me off limits.
My brother made that clear to all his friends the summer I turned fourteen.
That didn’t stop me from falling in love with him. From dreaming about sharing my future with him. From wondering what it would be like to be with him.
It didn’t stop the heated looks he’d send me when no one was paying attention. Or how he always found a way to be near me, to touch me. To protect me.
For six years we were fought against the waves of desire but the current kept pushing us toward one another.
Then I had him.
We collided with hurricane force. Our connection… explosive. It felt right, being with him. With the first kiss, I gave him my heart. With the first touch, I gave him my body. When I saw the love in his eyes, I handed over my soul.
I should have known it was too good to last, though. The next morning, he was gone, and my heart shattered. I left it on his bedroom floor as I did the walk of shame.
It’s been nine months since I laid eyes on him.
Yes, I’ve been avoiding this moment. But I can do this. I can fight my attraction for one night. Even if the moment I see him again, I know that night is going to come rushing back to me, along with the days and weeks of agony that followed.
Because he still owns every piece of me.

MY REVIEW
It's the same ol thing, a woman in love with her brother's best friend. In Willow's case, she's been in love with Finn forever, and she even had a taste of him once. Unfortunately, things fell apart after that night, and she's been avoiding him ever since. But the day comes, a tragic, horrible day, and Finn's back in her life, whether she wants him to be or not. Is a second chance on the horizon?

Brother's friend romances can be tricky. If they're done well, they're entertaining, and one of my favorite tropes. Here in Dirty Little Secret, I'd say it's done well. I liked both Willow and Finn, and liked how they bonded over their shared loss. Even Willow's brother's character was likable, which is not always the case in these type of stories. He reminds me of my own very protective older brother and the way he was when I was in high school and college. Forbidden relationships tend to be delicious in their secretive nature, but here that was tamped down a little, but still enjoyable to read. All in all, a good brother's best friend, forbidden love story. I'm really looking forward to the next in this series now.

Review: Waiting for You by Kate McBrien

Review of Waiting for You by Kate McBrien Justin and Lucy are apart, but for how long? Lucy's staying with her parents, but knows she needs to get out and start living her life again. But when she gets a chance to go to London, it just may be her chance to reunite with the man whose soul has been entwined with hers for centuries upon centuries. But first, our two fated lovers will have to not only reunite, but stay together, beat the odds and the people and/or forces who are trying to keep them apart. Waiting for You is a great followup to Discovering You. Justin and Lucy's story is exciting and passionate, and the mystical/fantasy/paranormal aspect just adds another interesting layer to their already wonderful connection. I normally don't read a lot of paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi romance anymore, but I loved it here in Waiting for You. It's subtle, but ever present and as I said, just makes their story all the more intriguing. I can't wait for the conclusio...
