My name is Ryan Sheppard and I don’t care about Christmas. I’m only returning to my over-the-top Christmas-themed hometown to sell the house I inherited from my late uncle so I can get back to the city and the promotion I’m chasing at work.

Unfortunately, there’s a flaw in my plan.

Because according to the town Christmas cop, there’s a moratorium on selling houses during December. She says it’s bad for the aesthetic. She’s also slapping an alarming number of tickets on my front door. For being in violation of holiday décor. And I swear on Rudolph himself, one is for ‘unsportsmanlike Christmassing.’

To top it all off, this Christmas cop looks like a red-headed elf.

A sexy red-headed elf…

MY REVIEW

Maggie's the town Christmas enforcer. Ryan's the town's newest flouter of all things Christmas. How can the two possibly form a relationship?

Ryan's only in town to see to his new inheritance, then sell it and get back to his life in the city. Then along comes this tiny little elf of a woman who keeps giving him tickets for violating Reindeer Falls' Christmas ordinances. She's driving him nuts. In more ways than one... but can a man who's Scroogey at best possibly be with a woman who positively embodies the Christmas spirit? Especially when he's certainly not going to stick around for long, and she's not stepping foot outside Reindeer Falls?

This is a fun introduction, not to Reindeer Falls, but to the next group of residents to fall in love amidst all the Christmas spirit that is this small town. Maggie is a crazy, kooky Christmas stickler, and Ryan is a bah humbug Scrooge, but their banter is witty and funny. I wanted them to be a couple for longer, but being that this is a novella, the timeline is shortened, so I got them for a short time and had a great time with them. But I still enjoyed it, and them, and can't wait for the Jake and Sutton's story when One Night with a Nutcracker releases.

About the Author
Jana Aston likes cats, big coffee cups and books about billionaires who deflower virgins. She wrote her debut novel while fielding customer service calls about electrical bills, and she's ever grateful for the fictional gynecologist in Wrong that readers embraced so much she was able to make working in her pajamas a reality. Jana’s novels have appeared on the NYT, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists, some multiple times. She likes multiples.

Title: The Challenge: A Single Dad Romance Author: Penelope Ward Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance Tropes: Single Dad, Second Chance, Forced Proximity Friends to Lovers, Small Town, Found Family Release Date: August 30, 2026 BLURB From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE contemporary romance… Nothing says welcome home like accidentally moving in with your first heartbreak…and his little girl. Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...

You TV series

Wow, hubby and I watched You on Lifetime last night. It was creepy and suspenseful. Hubby likened it to Dexter , and I have to agree. Penn Badgley was on point - creepy, stalkery, but fascinating. I didn't think too much of Elizabeth Lail's acting, but I'm not sure if it was just that her character was bland, or if it was truly bad acting. Can't wait for next week!
