Review / Release Blitz: Something Like Love (Against All Odds: The St. James Family #2) by Claudia Burgoa

Release Date: April 12

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Claudia Burgoa pens a fun and sexy romantic comedy where playing pretend turns to playing for keeps…

We have to pretend that what we have is something like love…
I’m down on my luck.
Scratch that. This is the worst week of my life.
Enter the last person I want to deal with: Burke St. James.
He’s wealthy.
He’s a womanizer.
And a big liar.
And it turns out we need each other.
Burke needs a fiancée to seal the deal of a lifetime. I need help or my business is going belly-up. So, Burke very non-romantically asks me to marry him. Well, he asks me to be fake engaged to him, anyway.
I’ll attend a few dinners, pretend I’m in love, and meet the family.
In exchange, he’ll invest in my company and help me launch it off the ground.
All is easy, except his kisses feel more real than they should.
And the sex…damn, we’re not supposed to have sex.
It’s all for show…right?
Did I mention he’s a really good liar?
Pretending not to fall in love is more complicated than I thought.

MY REVIEW

Two people with more opposing views of love and the world cannot be found than this fake engaged couple. Burke doesn't believe in love, thinks marriage is pointless and will only end in divorce. Then he meets this funny, beautiful woman named Chloe who seems to be the a romantic at heart. When he proposes she pretend to be his fiancée so he can close this deal he wants so badly, and in turn he'll invest in her business and help keep it afloat, it won't be but a little blip in time. He gets what he wants and she gets what she wants, then they part ways. Easy. Yeah...

When Chloe goes to her douche of a friend and roommate's friend, Burke, to see if he knows where their mutual friend, Maddox, went and how she can get her stuff back from him, she never imagined Burke would propose a fake engagement to her. But she's desperate and desperation always trumps common sense, so they're off on this crazy idea. She'll just have to keep her romantic heart out of Burke's clutches, because the man is so far from boyfriend material it's not even funny. But we all know that fake rarely stays that way and soon Chloe is faced with a choice - keep up with the charade and keep her business, or leave and protect her heart. What to choose...

Claudia never fails to capture my heart with her couples and the way they fall in love. Fake dating/engagements is one of my favorite tropes, and she does very right by the trope in Something Like Love. Chloe and Burke have chemistry in spades, even though he resists the idea, and she embraces it, it was obvious to the reader how very strongly they felt for each other. Fake definitely became very, very real, and I loved every witty, steamy word of their love story.

Review: Waiting for You by Kate McBrien

Review of Waiting for You by Kate McBrien Justin and Lucy are apart, but for how long? Lucy's staying with her parents, but knows she needs to get out and start living her life again. But when she gets a chance to go to London, it just may be her chance to reunite with the man whose soul has been entwined with hers for centuries upon centuries. But first, our two fated lovers will have to not only reunite, but stay together, beat the odds and the people and/or forces who are trying to keep them apart. Waiting for You is a great followup to Discovering You. Justin and Lucy's story is exciting and passionate, and the mystical/fantasy/paranormal aspect just adds another interesting layer to their already wonderful connection. I normally don't read a lot of paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi romance anymore, but I loved it here in Waiting for You. It's subtle, but ever present and as I said, just makes their story all the more intriguing. I can't wait for the conclusio...
