Review / Release Blitz: Knocked Up in Alaska (Captivity Alaska #3) by Samanthe Beck

Knocked Up in Alaska by Samanthe Beck is live!

Everyone in Captivity, Alaska, now knows Lilah Iquat's big (and getting bigger) secret. She's knocked up. Pregnant. All it took was a foolish decision with lasting consequences. Now Lilah's going it alone—with the help of the town. But with one particular craving getting stronger, Lilah has her eyes on just one thing: too-sexy Ford Langley.

Ford's ex-Army Special Forces sense of honor and duty haven't disappeared. Which is exactly why Lilah is fully off limits, hands-off, and don't even think about it, Ford. She's too young and too bright for an ex-Army man who's seen too much, too soon. Which means that he'll hold to his code—even if it kills him. And it just might.

Now Lilah is showing Ford how much light and life and love he's missing out on, testing every last shred of his resolve. But with a baby on the way and the whole town involved, Ford and Lilah are about to learn the hard way that life never goes according to plan...especially when it comes to love.

MY REVIEW

Ford's will is about to get tested, severely, because the young woman he's tried so hard to not fall for is going to be that much closer now that he's appointed himself her personal protector and confidante. But will his heart really let him keep the distance he insists on when Lilah and her soon to come baby have entwined themselves so seamlessly into his life?

Lilah's been keeping a big secret(s) for awhile now. But it's all come out, well, one of her secrets has, and suddenly here's Ford, offering himself up as her friend, her protector, her confidante. There's no way she can keep her heart protected from him, even if she knows he's not committing himself to anything but friendship. When her other secret, the one that weighs so heavily upon her that she's started hallucinating a spectral presence to try to assuage her guilt, comes out, she just knows she'll lose everything, even her friends. Will Ford forgive her for keeping it from him? Or will he understand because he's been in a similar situation?

I've been loving this small town series, with all its quirky, lovable residents. Ford and Lilah are such a great couple, though the age gap and Ford's ridiculous stubbornness made things a bit difficult for them for a bit. I love how much Lilah grew, although she was already mature for her age even though Ford couldn't see it, and Ford, oh boy was he swoony with his sweet, protective nature. That same nature that was frustrating, I admit, but still part of what was so easy to appreciate about him. I'm not sure if there's more to come from Captivity, but I hope so because I want more of them falling in love.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
