Review / Release Blitz: Offside with #55 (Hockey Hotties #6) by Piper Rayne

Offside with #55 by Piper Rayne is now live!

The last thing any professional hockey player wants is to be the old man in the game. The guy who doesn't know when it's time to retire. Still, I can't bear the thought of leaving the game.

This past year I've reflected on all my regrets, and I told myself that once I retire it'll be the time to settle down and start a family. But this is where it gets tricky.

I think I've found her—my Mrs. Although she'll deny our connection to anyone who asks. We've been sleeping together casually and since I'm still playing hockey, I've let her get what she wants—me—whenever she wants.

After being told my career as a player is over, the owner of Florida Fury grants me a shot to stay in the game. A coaching position I didn't know I wanted until it was offered. The catch? He's also passing the family business down to his daughter.

Who's his daughter?

The woman who's been in and out of my bed for the past year. Which means the woman I intend to make my wife is now my new boss.

MY REVIEW

Kane's life has just changed in a matter of seconds. He's no longer a hockey player, he's a hockey coach. Jana's life too has changed within the same matter of seconds. She's no longer the hockey team owner's daughter, she's the new hockey team owner. She and Kane are no longer friends with benefits. They can't because reasons. Because obviously the owner and the coach cannot fraternize. Sounds appropriate on paper, but rarely do humans and their feelings stay within the lines of "on paper."

It's the end of an epic series, end of an era of hot hockey players and the women who bring them to their knees as they fall in love, and Kane and Jana's story is a fitting one for the conclusion of the Hockey Hotties world. I always figured Kane would have an interesting backstory, and boy did he. For once, the guy was the one wanting more, and the woman was keeping him at arm's length. Jana was fine with their no strings attachment, relished it actually, and it bothered her as much as it did Kane that they could no longer have anything but a professional one. The way they fought simmered with antagonism, which was of course masking deeper feelings, so deliciously fun. I'm going to miss this hockey world, but am looking forward to Kane's brother Lee's story, starting off a new series, Kingsmen Football Stars.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
