Cameron's life consists of his adorable daughter, Trinity, and his job as a firefighter. His friend/his friend Gauge's sister, Natalie, has been in his life forever, and he's only ever seen her as a friend and wonderful caretaker of his daughter when he's working. But lately he's been seeing her in a new light, a new, very intriguing light. Her brother is his best friend, though, so it means anything they start will have to be kept a secret. He's not willing to give up his friendship for anything. Except, perhaps, Natalie?
Natalie loves caring for Trinity. She may not have attained her dreams, but she's happy with her life in her small town. Then suddenly her brother's friend, her own friend, Cameron, suddenly sees her as more than a friend. She knows her brother probably won't approve, but she doesn't care, she's an adult and gets to choose who she dates. But will Cameron ever want to be public with her? Is she more important than possibly straining his friendship with her brother?
This is a mostly angst free, lighthearted read. Once Cameron sees Natalie in a new light, the pace picks up and goes light speed to the ending. I admit to wanting more relationship development, more figuring things out, and most significantly, I wanted the resolution to their fight to be much more detailed. Cameron didn't grovel nearly enough, OK, not at all, and it bothered me, a lot. It was as if one word from her brother, and one tense event and Natalie up and forgave him without more than a sentence of apologies. Other than those two things, though, I liked this brother's friend, firefighter story.
