After losing her husband, the first man to make Detective Rylla Franklin feel anything at all turns her down when she garners the courage to ask him out. Throwing herself into work, she has plenty to keep her busy as she and her partner hunt a serial killer who turns his victims into princesses. When her sister becomes the next victim she's yanked from the case and with nothing but time on her hands the sexy man she's been trying to ignore suddenly gets an opening into her life.

Nate Oakland didn't want to say no when Rylla asked him out, but he knows he's not good enough for her. He's tried to explain but she won't give him the time of day. When Rylla's sister goes missing, he decides he's given her enough space, and is determined to not only be there to support her but also to convince her he made a mistake turning her down before and to give him a second chance.

But when Rylla becomes the killer's next target it's no longer their losses and doubt that are the biggest threat to their fledgling relationship.

MY REVIEW

The first man Rylla has been interested in since her husband's death and what does Nate do when she shows her interest? He rejects her. Ouch. Now she won't give the man the time of day no matter how many times he tries to apologize and explain why he turned her down. Will he give up on trying to apologize? Will Rylla never know the real reason why he said no to her?

The Fairytale Killer case has everyone involved. Now that Nate and Rylla and her partner will be working closely together, perhaps Nate's chance to finally explain is here. But everyone will have to get through this case alive if Nate and Rylla are to have a go at something real.

I loved this suspenseful romance! The developing relationship between Rylla and Nate blends seamlessly with the mystery of who the killer is, and Rylla and Nate are such a great couple. I especially love Rylla - she's incredibly strong and compassionate. Though she was far from trusting of Nate at first, I completely understood why, and was glad it made Nate work that much harder to get on her good side. Nate is definitely an equal partner to Rylla - just as damaged as Rylla, just as big a heart, and willing to grovel and work for what he wants. So far this Storybrook series is the kind of romantic suspense series I like most - intriguing and suspenseful, with a case I am surprised by who the villain is, and with great couples in each story. Now I'm waiting anxiously for Grace and Matthew's story, Fable Killer.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
