MY REVIEW

Juliet met Luke when she was living with her boyfriend Danny and his parents, having been taken in by them after her own family situation had become unbearable. She had been taught to be meek, obedient, and grateful to her new family, and she was (is). But when Danny's friend Luke comes into the picture, and he can't stand her from the get go, her relationship with her boyfriend and his family suffers as her feelings for Luke evolve.

Though it seems as if Luke can't stand his friend's girlfriend, in fact his feelings are a far cry from contempt. He feels an immediate connection with her, and his forbidden feelings are only getting stronger. He can't have her and he can't stay away from her so his situation is driving him mad. If Juliet doesn't agree to run away with him, he might just have to give up on being with her, even if he'll always have feelings for her, no matter how many years it takes for her to be ready for him.

I was absolutely not prepared for this story, and it completely wrecked me. Juliet is such a damaged, broken girl trying her hardest to just make her way in the world in the only way she knows how, the only way she's been raised. Meeting Luke was a game changer, and it changed the trajectory of all to come for her. I wanted to smack her all while wanting to hug her because her choices and behavior are highly questionable at times. But I was also rooting her and Luke on from their very first meeting. The way he loved her, the way he was so possessive, so steadfast and her rock - he's one swoony bbf, and the main reason I love this story so much, even as it broke my heart more times than I can count, even though their second chance took far too long to happen for my heart's sake.

Meet Elizabeth

Elizabeth O'Roark spent many years as a medical writer before publishing her first novel in 2013. She holds bachelor's degrees in journalism and arts from the University of Texas, and a master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Notre Dame. She is the author of 12 novels and recipient of the 2017 IBPA gold medal for romance. She lives in Washington DC with her three children.
