Marigold got the call she never wanted to receive, and now she's back to Sutten Mountain, the place she's been avoiding ever since she had her heart broken by her best friend's brother, Cade. Not only will she have to be strong for Pippa, but she'll have to deal with Cade's pain, and apparently, his anger. If she can just get through the grief, then she can go back to her life, the one she's been living with a broken heart that she wrote into her debut novel. Does Cade realize her breakout novel is their heartbreaking story?
Cade may have been the one to tell Marigold to go, to go live her dream, but he didn't actually think she'd leave and never come back to him. So though she went and lived her dream, the one he always wanted for her, she left him in the dust. Now that she's back in town, he knows it's not forever, and he's so angry at her, at himself, at life, for his broken heart. How can he deal with losing his mom, and seeing the woman he's always loved but who left him?
The angst was high here, so high I was a bit squirmy while reading, and is the only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars. I love the premise, though, and the solid love between Marigold and Cade. I may have wanted to smack Cade for his obliviousness, and his anger when he caused it all by himself, but I love that they got the second chance they both so deserved, worked so hard for. Sutten Mountain is shaping up to be a great series, cannot wait for the next story now.
