She’s the genius hacker known as Hex.

He’s a ghost—the deep-cover spy known only as Shade.

They generate a dangerous level of white-hot sparks, but he needs her help on a deadly mission.

Jet “Hex” Adler loves being a goddess of all thing tech. She provides her team at Sentinel Security with intel and comms, and she’s good at it. No, brilliant. Sure, sometimes it’s hard to be stuck in the office while her guys are in the field, but computers, tech, and drones are her thing. If only she had the same luck with men.

And that does not include a certain hot, cocky, annoying spy.

Cain aka Shade is dedicated to his country. He does the hard, dangerous work so others don’t have to. He came from nothing, he’s alone, unattached. A man like him has nothing to lose. For Cain, life is always about the mission. It can never be about a certain small, smart, feisty hacker.

But now he needs Jet for an important assignment to stop high-tech drone schematics falling into enemy hands.

Of course, Jet will do anything to help save the world…okay, not the entire world, but a lot of innocent lives. Even if it means going undercover with the man who knows how to push every one of her buttons. But as they work together, dodging danger and bad guys, their scorching attraction explodes…and Cain will realize that for the first time in his life, someone is more important to him than his mission.

An action-packed standalone romance in Anna Hackett’s Sentinel Security series.

MY REVIEW

Cain aka Shade has lived his life knowing he's not capable of, nor is he deserving of, love. But when he goes undercover on a mission with Jet aka Hex, Sentinel Security's hacker extraordinaire, he finds that not only is he capable of feeling, but that Jet is going to give him a run for his money. She's feisty, smart, and not one to sit back and watch when someone she loves is in danger. Now he'll have to decide if he can accept the love she's offering, or he will continue to live his life devoid of the warmth and love he knows is within reach.

All of the people Jet loves and works with have been finding love and settling down. She wants that too, but doesn't think she'll ever have it considering that none of her exes have been able to handle her job, her intelligence, and her "cuteness". There's a guy, though, one she is insanely attracted to, but he's flirty at best, and stoic at worst. When Cain and she are put onto a mission together, she'll find out if she can slip beneath his walls, and into his heart.

The men and women of Sentinel Security are some of my favorite! Jet is probably my favorite of all of them, with her feisty sass and her insane smarts, both computer and otherwise. She's the perfect counterpoint to Cain, who I just wanted to give a hug to. Really only Jet could have been the one to give Cain the warmth he had missed his whole life. She's his rock and I loved every second of their story. Their chemistry is delicious and their deepening emotional connection made it even better. The whole crew is along for the ride and Killian is there being his big boss/brother figure for Jet, keeping close eye out to make sure Cain wasn't going to disappear on her and take her heart with him. I'm not sure if this is the last of the Sentinel Security series, but if it is, it definitely ended with a bang.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
