Brinkley's back home with her family after having been let go from her job, thanks to that jerk Lincoln Hendrix. He may be the GOAT of football, but in her eyes and her family's, he's enemy #1. So how is it her luck the man is staying in Cottonwood Cove while contemplating the future of his career, and thinks that she's following him?! The nerve...but if these two enemies can get past their dislike of each other, they can co-exist peacefully, perhaps even become friends as she shadows him for his exclusive story, the one he owes her after having gotten her unceremoniously fired. And just maybe that friendship can evolve to more.
Lincoln has not only never been more irritated by a woman than Brinkley before, but he's also never been so attracted to one, nor wanted to get under her skin as much. Oh he still doesn't trust her, but he can't control his attraction to her. Perhaps they can be...friends...or something like it. If he's going to give her his exclusive story, he guesses he needs to be friends with her. Anything else would be a no go, though, because athletes and reporters do not mix. Right?
Brinkley, she's my girl! She's sweet, sassy, funny and strong and independent. She makes Lincoln work to gain her affection, her heart, and does it with style. I adore her and her family's strong connection, their funny as hell texts, and the way they eventually welcomed Lincoln with open arms. Lincoln really does have a soft side, the one his agent accused him of having, one that he only shows a select group of people. He slowly comes to love Brinks and her family and their small town, and I was 100% enjoying every word as they evolved from enemies to friends to more. Now I'm anxiously waiting for the next Reynolds sibling to fall when Finn and Reese finally go from friends to more in Before the Sunset.
