Blurb

After being a soldier, working as a bodyguard should have been simple:
Keep the owner of DC’s ultra-secret club safe.
Don’t think about his midnight eyes or his devil’s smile.
Don’t surrender my body to his wicked desires.
But I underestimated Mark Trevena and the power of his dark, seductive world. I underestimated the hold he’d have on me, the way I would do anything for him, anything at all. And so when he asks me to escort his soon-to-be bride home, I can only—miserably, broken-heartedly—say yes.
Isolde is nothing like I expect, however. Quiet and lonely and sharp, a girl who likes knives and God, a girl whose nightmares echo my own. One night while sailing under the cold stars, we share a reckless, tear-soaked kiss.
I’m doomed. Falling in love with Mark was one thing, but his bride too? Being in love with a husband and wife at the same time? Torture. Misery.
A tragedy if tragedies came with bruises, sweat, sighs.
But it isn’t enough to merely fall into the forbidden. Because in Mark Trevena’s world, the fall is only the beginning…

MY REVIEW

Tristan's new boss is fascinating, but Mark should not find him so, at all. Not only is Mark Tristan's boss, he's kinda sorta (by marriage) related to him, and is the owner of a secretive, exclusive club, the kind Tristan has never encountered before, and shouldn't at all find intriguing. But though he shouldn't, Tristan has fallen headlong into Mark and his world. Then bam, he finds out Mark is engaged, to the woman Mark sends him to guard. And as he soon finds out, his fiancée is just as fascinating as Mark is. What's an inexperienced, adrift man to do when he falls in love with his boss, and his boss's fiancée?!

Isolde was just a teenager when she found she was betrothed to the fascinating man she had danced with. But when she finds out why her father is marrying her off to him, let's just say she's less than willing to go along with it. Not only is Mark not a good man, but he's a former CIA operative, he lives in the grey (read, BLACK) part of the moral spectrum, and he runs a kink club that trades in information rather than money. How can she, the virginal daughter of a banker, niece of a man who works for The Church, be married to such a man? Will she oblige when her uncle begs her to set aside her dream of becoming a nun, to become instead a weapon for him and The Church?

Holy smokes, guys, but what did I just read?! From the first page of the prequel, Salt in the Wound, to the last page of this first part of Lyonesse, I was riveted first by Isolde's steadfast nature, to Mark's devious sexiness, and finally, to Tristan's beautiful innocence. Though we only get one scene of the three of them in the same room, the implication is obvious - that what's to come is going to be FIRE! First Mark's sly seduction of Isolde's naïveté, then the same seduction of Tristan's even more innocent nature, to the serious tension between Isolde and Tristan on the yacht - whew, I was fanning myself the whole way through. Now I'm anxiously waiting to see the three of them together, if Mark manages to redeem himself and step out of the darkness and into the light that Tristan and Isolde inhabit, if Isolde can manage these two men, and if they can actually have love with and between all three.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
