The Tithing Blurb

An ancient curse. Two families bound. A forbidden love.
When the Wildbloods presented their daughters to me on the night of the Tithing, they knew what was to come for the chosen girl.
The crescent moon that marked Willow made her mine. I had no choice but to take her.
Destiny determined our fates long before we were born, laying our roles out for us.
A Sacrifice would be made. A Tithe paid. Only then would our families be free, at least until the next payment came due.
I would have done my duty as Penitent. I tried.
But no one counted on the lion falling in love with the lamb.
And loving Willow could cost me everything.

MY REVIEW

Willow and Azrael's families have a long, bloody history. He's a Delacroix of the IVI Society, who take a sacrifice from the Wildblood family. This time it's Azrael's turn to take a sacrifice from Willow's family, and her birthmark denotes she's the one to be taken. But what happens when he starts to develop feelings for his wife? Will he go through with the sacrifice that the curse demands?

Azrael is taking the sacrifice because it's expected of him, because he wants to protect his family, a family who may or may not welcome his new wife. He never expected to actually develop feelings for Willow, but now that he has, can he go through with the tithing? Can he really protect her from everyone, even his family?

It is so good being back with The Society again. If you haven't read the previous books, no worries, but you're missing out. This is a standalone, but it would probably be helpful to read them to find more about The Society and its complicated, violent history. Azrael and Willow are definitely enemies at the beginning of their arranged marriage, but it's patently obvious that feelings are going to be a problem for them, as they spark off each other immediately. Willow is an amazing character - loving, willing to sacrifice herself for the people she loves, but she's not weak willed or simpering in any way. Azrael may be alpha to the core, but he's equally loving and protective of his family, especially his sister, so it is inevitable they develop strong feelings for each other. There's a vein of mystery, both of the eerie paranormal and not, in their story, and I'm really impatient to find out more, as The Tithing ends on a cliffhanger. I have some strong ideas of what's going on, and ideas of just who is a villain, but I'll have to wait until October to find out, when The Penitent finds its way to my Kindle.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
