The Penitent Blurb

A cruel fate. Two souls condemned. An impossible love.
I knew he’d choose me before he came to our door on the night of the Tithing. I bore the mark that would make me his.
It was my ancestor who spoke the words that bound us together, and his demon-god who promised protection for the price of blood.
My blood.
I was prepared to be that sacrifice if it would keep my family safe.
Loving Azrael? The thought never crossed my mind. He was and would forever be my enemy.
He’s not the only monster coming for me, though, and somehow, it’s in Azrael’s arms I feel the safest.
But I need to be careful with him. I need to guard my heart because if I don’t, he is sure to destroy me.

MY REVIEW

Willow and Azrael's story picks up right where the cliffhanger left us in The Tithing, and the pace never once lets up. The curse is showing up in big ways, and Azrael will have choices to make - believe what's evidenced about certain people, choose his wife, or continue along the same path and lose everything and everyone.

Once again, Willow is the standout in her story. She comes into her own as she and Azrael are falling in love. She's even more in touch with her bloodline and ancestors and her sisters, and she's forging a strong bond with Azrael's sister. But though Willow is the standout character to me with her strength and her loving heart, Azrael is the one who grew the most here in their conclusion installment. He finally realized certain key things that allowed him take his head out of the fog and allow his love for his wife and family to make a difference in his life. He completely redeemed himself here and I love it!

I'm going to miss Willow, Azrael and co. Their story is dark and eerie with a paranormal vein running through it, a strong, loving heroine in Willow, and a broody, protective hero in Azrael. There is an excellent secondary cast here too - Willow and Azrael's sisters, and members of Azrael's crew. I'm really hoping they will all get their own stories, whether in The Society series or spun off on their own.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...
