Ryder has always known his best friend's little sister, Dakota, is off-limits. It's why he's kept a lid on his more than brotherly feelings for so long. But he's at his breaking point now, and cannot resist her. He'll just have to make sure the less than desirable elements of his life don't touch her and her adorable son. He'd sooner die than let anything happen to either of them.
Dakota has her son, her business, and her family. It's all she needs, but not really. Ryder is her brother's best friend, her own friend, and her savior. Ever since she got up the nerve to tell him how she felt a long time ago, and he rejected her, she's remained in the friendzone. But he's looking at her differently lately and it may mean they can have all that she's ever wanted with him. He may not think he's good enough for her, but she sees the real man beneath the façade, and his heart is true. She'll need to remember that if she wants them to make their relationship work.
I always say this when I review A.L.'s writing, but I have to keep saying it - she's a lyrical damn poet. Reading her writing is like reading a wave of emotion that doesn't let up until the last word. Ryder, Dakota, and Kayden make the most beautiful family. He's been obsessed with her for as long as she's been with him, but has never been able to step past that line, until he does because he can't help himself any longer. I so hurt for him when his backstory and secret came out. Heartbreaking is probably an understatement really. But though he's a "morally gray" character, he's actually a beautiful soul, and I was rooting him on the whole way through. Dakota is so strong, the perfect counterpart for Ryder's broody bad boy with her infinite love for her son and her family, especially the family she chooses in Ryder. I am so eagerly waiting for more Time River love now.
