Gemma doesn't remember everything that happened to her in the past day, but she knows she was taken. Luckily for her, she was rescued, fished out of the river by a protective former Special Forces operative named Boone and his extraordinary dog, Atlas. Boone has the skills, the fortitude, and the desire, to help her, to protect her. He doesn't realize it now, but she'll soon become more than just a job to him.
Boone's never forgiven himself for surviving when his teammates didn't. That's why he lives a solitary life, doesn't interact with others unless he's on a job, doesn't live near others. But when a special woman needs his help, he and his right hand man and partner, Atlas, can't do anything but spring into action for her. While helping her, he just may find she helps him too, to find the warmth, the healing, and the forgiveness of himself that he's been searching for all this time.
I've been so wanting Boone and Atlas' story ever since they first popped up in previous stories. And it was so worth the wait because Boone, Gemma and Atlas are amazing together! Like Anna's other alpha's, Boone is seriously protective, seriously skilled, and just waiting for the right person to come along and tilt his world on its axis. Gemma is equally awesome, an heiress who doesn't want to live the heiress life, just wants to have a simple life baking and perhaps with someone who gets her. There's action of course, woven seamlessly with the developing connection between Boone and Gemma, and along the way the two rescue each other, with the help of Atlas and Shep, and a few other cameos by some other special characters in other series. I can't wait for Shep's story now, I have a feeling he's not going to make it easy on whoever he falls in love with.
