Review / Release Blitz: The Drawback of Single Dads (Lake Starlight #4) by Piper Rayne

The Drawback of Single Dads by Piper Rayne is now live!

He’s the father of my child and my best friend.

When Hudson and I met, somehow things just clicked between us. We had the same sense of humor and the same carefree attitude about our lives and goals. Neither of us wanted to lay down roots, we wanted to explore the world.

Then one night, too much alcohol and uncontrolled hormones led to the line blurring, and we fell into bed together only to discover a month later that we were more careless than we thought.

Like the upstanding guy he is, Hudson followed me back to my hometown of Lake Starlight, Alaska, where you can’t throw a penny and not hit one of my family members. We gave them the news that yes, we were having a baby but there would be no wedding. We loved each other but we weren’t in love.

Fast forward three years and we live side by side to make co-parenting our daughter easy. I’m a writer, and he’s a ski instructor. We’ve worked out all the rough edges. Life is good.

Until out of nowhere, things start to change. He has a girlfriend, we’re arguing more than ever, and it feels as if someone has come along and popped our perfect bubble. I’m not sure we’re ever going to fit back inside it now because things are developing. Things like feelings.

MY REVIEW

Palmer and Hudson co-parent their adorable daughter like the best friends they are. They only had one more than friendly moment, and it's why they have Adley. But since then, all they've done is live next to each other so their daughter's life is disrupted the least amount possible, intermingling their lives as friends. But what happens when one of them suddenly can't stand it when the other starts dating? When his feelings (that have always been there), come roaring to the surface? Can Palmer be convinced that crossing that line won't result in losing their friendship?

Hudson's been in the friendzone 99% of his relationship with Palmer and he's been fine with it up until just recently. Now they're sneaking around, indulging in their feelings, but something's still bugging him. Will Palmer ever be OK with them going public? He know she has trust issues, thanks to a revelation about her parents, but he's getting tired of being a secret. If he's not careful, everything they've built might just be lost if he pushes her too far too fast. He'll either have to tread lightly, or decide if he can stay a secret indefinitely.

Friends to lovers can be difficult to write well. Hudson and Palmer's story is perhaps not my favorite either of the authors' or of this trope, but it's still sweet and heartfelt. Adley is adorable, as are the meddling residents of their small town. Really the only thing I had a minor problem with, and the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars, is because I didn't feel that strong chemistry the authors usually give me. It's probably because they didn't really give in for a long time, and most of the rest of the time they weren't admitting their feelings. I understood Palmer's reluctance to go public, but it was a bit frustrating, not just for me, for Hudson too, poor guy. Still though, I really enjoyed this small town romance. The deaf rep is perfectly done with the right amount of sensitivity without going overboard, and there are cameos by some of my favorite characters in Piper's series.

Review: Winter Interlude: An American Revolutionary Novelette (American Revolutionary Tales 2) by Regina Kammer

Review of Winter Interlude: An American Revolutionary Novelette by Regina Kammer Captain Samuel Taylor and Lieutenant Patrick Hamilton recall their first steamy encounter, which was a MFM threesome in a brothel. It morphed into more and now the two are contemplating their futures with the women they love, and their futures with each other. If you think times are hard for the LGBT community now, think of how hard they were during the American Revolution. Winter Interlude is well developed, which is surprising given its short length. I am so interested in knowing what is to become of Samuel and Patrick's forbidden relationship. Do they stay together? Or do they go their separate ways, and live out their lives with their women? Now that they've admitted their love for each other, how impossible would it be for them to be without each other? I have to know, now! If you like MM fiction and/or historical fiction, I highly recommend you give Winter Interlude a read. It...

I see her as she is now: a powerful woman with ambition for miles. When I hold he...
