Review / Release Blitz: Forever the Highlands (The Highlands #6) by Samantha Young

Forever the Highlands by Samantha Young is now live!

He’s her brother’s best friend. She’s totally off-limits. But when life takes an unexpected turn, she’s the only one he wants at his side…

Fyfe Moray raised himself. His only real family is his best friend, Lewis Adair. For that reason, Lewis’s sister Eilidh is totally off-limits. Fyfe is in deep denial about their intense attraction. Thankfully, Eilidh is a famous actor living in London while he runs his cyber security company from the Highlands. They’re worlds apart. Until one day, Eilidh reaches out asking for a lifeline and Fyfe can’t bring himself to turn her away.

Acting isn’t what Eilidh Adair expected. As a kid, she wanted to be just like her famous uncles. But the double-edged sword of fame cuts deeper than expected. Afraid to admit she’s made a mistake, Eilidh is spiraling. The only person who knows the truth is Fyfe, but her childhood crush has developed into a love he won’t return. Yet when she comes home intent on starting over, Fyfe can’t seem to stay away. His confused feelings might just be the end of them. Until a woman from Fyfe’s past abandons the baby daughter he never knew he had.

Now a single father, Fyfe needs support. He just never expected Eilidh to be the one he needed most. Fyfe can’t believe how quickly he falls for his child and how rapidly his world view changes. He’s ready to admit the truth: he’s madly in love with his best friend’s sister. And Fyfe’s done wasting time. But someone else believes Eilidh belongs to them. Someone who has been watching her far longer than she realizes. Just when she thinks she might have everything she wants, Eilidh finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a person intent on destroying everything she holds dear.

MY REVIEW

Eilidh has had an unrequited (or so she thinks) crush on her brother's best friend Fyfe, her whole life. Then he starts giving off vibes that he might return her feelings, and she gets her hopes up. Alas, it's not to be, they're not to be. But her poor heart can't help but keep the hope alive, and she doesn't know what to do as he pulls her close then pushes her away in a neverending cycle. She even tries to keep busy and distracted with her acting career, but it doesn't make her happy at all, thanks to the cruelty of social media and a mean costar. Now she's back home for good, and her feelings are coming to the surface again, even if she doesn't want them to. All she knows is she and Fyfe stand no chance if he can't even admit to anyone he sees her as more than his best friend's sister.

The Adairs are Fyfe's family and Lewis is more than just his best friend, he's his brother. That's why he can't allow himself to love Lewis's sister Eilidh, well that and that he doesn't think he's anywhere close to good enough for her. But when a bombshell in the form of a baby is dropped on his doorstep, and Eilidh comes to the rescue, he can't help but fall in love, even though he can't admit it. But if it comes down to it, he might have to not only admit those feelings, but fight for them, fight for her, for their love, if he wants to keep her in his life.

What an epic way to end this amazing series. There's no better story to conclude The Highlands than Eilidh and Fyfe's beautiful journey from brother's friend to friends to so much more. They had difficult obstacles to overcome - hers in the form of the toxic cruelty of fans and haters that celebrities in the public eye deal with, and his with his family's abandonment and the pervasive insecurities it gave him. But though they had so many scars on their souls, they finally managed (with the help of a beautiful baby, and the Adairs) to grow into themselves and let themselves love each other. I'm going to miss this family, the beautiful Scottish setting, and all the love they've found.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
