Review / Release Blitz: Against the Wind (Wayward Sons) by Kait Nolan writing as Harper Jackson

AGAINST THE WIND
Harper Jackson
Release Date: January 31

The last person I expect—or want—to take shelter with as a hurricane descends on Hatterwick Island is Daniel LaRue, the man who broke my heart barely three months ago.

I don't have time for... whatever this is. My medical clinic has been targeted by thieves—hardly a month after returning to my home town. Coming back to the Outer Banks was always the plan after med school, and for a while in residency, I thought I might bring the hot Coast Guardsman with me. Right up until he accepted a new promotion without talking to me.

Turned out he was more of a situationship than anything real.

Except now he’s appeared on my doorstep, declaring he's on the Outer Banks for me, and despite my considerable temper pointed in his direction, he insists on helping me weather the storm. Literally. Stranded together, we have no choice but to deal with the chemistry still sizzling between us. I can’t deny that he still affects me. But as the hours tick by, I start to realize there’s more to his arrival on the island than he’s telling me—and I long ago learned that the secrets of Hatterwick Island are always dangerous.

MY REVIEW

Gabi had to pick herself up and nurse her broken heart these past months after Daniel chose his career over her, over them. Now he's back on the island telling her he's there for her?! Nope. But when a hurricane hits and he's stuck in her clinic with her riding out the storm, her heart and her body are telling her to give him the second chance he seems so intent on. Should she chance another broken heart? Is Daniel really here for her, or is it his career that's still his priority?

Daniel knew almost immediately that he made the wrong choice when he said yes to a promotion without even talking to Gabi about it. It's taken awhile, but he's finally back on the island, and he's going to get her to forgive him and give him a second chance, no matter how long it takes. He might have to take a slight detour to get there, though, when someone related to his case tries to break into Gabi's clinic. If they make it out of this storm, and take down the targets of his task force, he will convince Gabi that she's his priority.

This short novella is fast-paced and takes you right to the heart of Gabi and Daniel's second chance. I wanted to know more about them, about their past, and their present, but I still enjoyed reading how their close proximity forced them to reopen their hearts to each other, and Gabi to give Daniel his second chance. There's a bit of suspense, their chemistry is hot, and it's obvious they're heading for a happy forever.

Review: One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti

Review of One Little Lie by Whitney Barbetti ONE LITTLE LIE Hollis is a good girl with a crush on a broody musician. Unfortunately, that boy, Adam, hates her. Why? Because the chip on his shoulder leaves him thinking good girl, rich girl Hollis is a lemming like everyone else in their small town. Which makes it even more unfortunate when years after their high school encounter, Hollis' best friend tries to stick up for her and ends up telling her parents that Adam is the the boyfriend Hollis doesn't actually have. Oops. How will Hollis ever convince Adam to go along with her little lie? I really liked One Little Lie. Hollis is a really naive girl, but she has such a huge heart that I couldn't help but fall in love with her spirit. She's so sweet, so compassionate, the kind of person this world needs more of. Adam, on the other hand, eh, he didn't do much for me. His chip on the shoulder, broody asshole attitude did nothing to endear me to him, but because H...

Coming back to my small Wyoming hometown was supposed to be temporary. I only planned to stay long enough to help my ailing mother and sort through the mess of my family’s old belongings. Instead, I somehow ended up living in Evan Ricci’s house. The single dad now owned a bunch of properties and one of them was the place I’d rented. He’d taken it off the market and moved in before I got there. I just never got the memo. Unfortunately, there was no other place in town available, so Evan let me stay. Evan—the guy my parents took in years a...
