Emery would do anything for her sister, anything for her niece, that's why she's taking Maci to her previously unknown (to her) father, Kane. Why does Kane have to be the gorgeous guy who rescued her in the bar previously? And why does he have to invite her to live with him for a month while he shows her he can be the father Maci needs and deserves. And above all, why does he have to make her fall in love with him?
Kane takes one look at the beautiful woman at the bar who's being bothered by a guy who won't leave her alone, and falls hard. She bolts, though, after, and he's left to wonder if he'll ever see her again. Then she shows up at his door with...his daughter? The daughter he never knew existed, and he can see the judgement in her eyes. That's why he convinces her to stay with him for a month - to prove to her he'll be the best dad Maci could ever hope for. Right? He doesn't have any agenda or anything...well except he wants to prove to Emery that he's the man for her too. And he just may be able to prove it to her if his big secret doesn't ruin everything.
Kane and Emery's love at first sight (for him) story is beautiful. I wanted to hug Emery as she found her sister's letter, but it brought her and Maci to Kane, the man who'd soon come to be their everything. And I wanted to hug Kane even harder as his backstory was revealed. He had endured a lot, and it clung to his psyche. Thank God warmth came long in the form of Emery and his adorable daughter. Daddy Kane, Maci, and Emery make a beautiful family unit, and the author's lyrical way with words did them proud.
