From USA Today bestselling author Claudia Burgoa comes a deeply emotional small-town romance about a runaway heiress, a tattooed protector, and the marriage that was never supposed to be real—until love found them anyway.
He was never supposed to love her—especially not her baby.
I didn’t plan on ending up in Birchwood Springs.
But after escaping a brutal marriage and discovering I’m pregnant, this town—and the broody tattoo artist who swore to protect me—might be the only shot I have at starting over. Atlas Timberbridge is nothing like the world I left behind.
He’s all inked arms, gruff silence, and an unexpected gentleness that makes my heart ache.
Pretending we were married was for my protection.
A temporary arrangement meant to keep me hidden from my vicious husband.
We agree to keep it strictly business. No feelings. No future.
But the longer I stay, the more this small town—and this man—start to feel like home.
Now I’m falling for my fake husband… and terrified he’ll never be able to love me back.
Because small towns have long memories.
And secrets don’t stay buried forever.

MY REVIEW
Henrietta ran from her abusive husband. She knew if she didn't take the chance and leave, she'd never survive him. Now she's starting over with a new name, a new town, and a protector in Atlas Timberbridge. She's starting to feel for her fake husband, though, even though she's still in danger, with a baby on the way. Atlas may not be her baby's father but she's starting to think he could be their dad. If they can deal head-on with her husband, perhaps this fake marriage stands a chance of becoming real.
Atlas doesn't really settle and do commitments. The way he was raised has colored his perception of love and relationships, and in no way is he looking for any of that. Then a chance meeting with Blythe has his world turned on its head. He recognizes the fear in her eyes and suddenly he wants to protect her - from her husband, from their town, from anything that wants to hurt her. But what he really wants? Everything. He wants the whole thing - a real marriage, fatherhood, the whole nine yards. And they can have it, once they deal with her husband.
I didn't even realize I needed this story until I started reading it. Blythe couldn't have been a stronger heroine, she was downright inspirational. Her strength, her heart, and her determination to finally get out from beneath her husband's abusive thumb, I LOVE reading as she healed, grew, and fell in love with a man the complete opposite of her horrible husband. And then there's Atlas, I'm so glad Claudia gave Blythe a man of equal character to her, with a protective heart, one who needed healing just as she did. I'm so glad they were able to heal with each other, to find the other half of their soul.
