Reina Huffman has been in love with her boss for years.
Not that she’s ever told him. Derek Messina—brilliant, exacting, infuriating—barely notices anything outside of work. Or so she thought. Then she learns two things in one day:
1. He’s just become a single dad.
2. He’s proposing to another woman.
That’s it. She’s done being the loyal assistant who quietly keeps his world spinning while her own heart breaks.
Derek doesn’t do feelings.
But the thought of Reina walking away hits him like a wrecking ball. He needs her—her sharp mind, her steady presence, the way she makes everything make sense. So he strikes a deal: stay long enough to teach him how to be a father, and he’ll make it worth her while.
But late nights with a baby, stolen glances across conference tables, and one too many almost-kisses blur the line between professional and something else entirely.
Derek’s finally realizing what’s been in front of him all along.
And Reina? She’s about to find out what happens when the boss who never loved anyone decides he’s not letting her go.
Slow burn. Forced proximity. One cranky CEO, one loyal assistant, and a baby that changes everything.

MY REVIEW
Reina's been in unrequited love with her boss Derek for far too long. When she finds out that not only is he a surprise single dad, but that he's just proposed to someone (not the baby mama), Reina's out. OUT. Except Derek needs her help, even if only for a little while, to get him bonded with his new baby. She'll do this one last thing, then go live her new life, do something for herself for once. At least that's the plan.
Reina doesn't know this, but her boss does see her, does notice her as more than just his assistant - he's just never allowed himself to express it. Not only would it be unprofessional, but it would upend his life if something happened and he lost her just because he couldn't control himself around her. But when he finds out he's a father, figuring out how to be a good parent is now his number 1 priority. That's where Reina comes, at least for a little while. But even longer if he can figure out how to keep her.
Fun, sweet, and a little spicy - what a great take on a workplace romance! Derek is clueless in a lot of ways, definitely lacking in social graces, but with a soft heart that not many get to see. Thank God he has Reina, because she does see the real him, and loves him even though she thinks he's never really noticed her outside of the office. I love the neurodivergent rep, the two characters at the heart of the story, and especially the way Derek put his everything into bonding with his daughter. This is the first I've read by this author, but after this, I can safely say, it will not be my last.
