Hendricks, Lord Burlington, answers to several names.
Hen to his siblings, daddy to his five-year-old son, My Lord to strangers and ‘The Vet’ to all the animals he looks after.
But to Story MacIntosh, he’s the one who got away.
Formerly best friends for life, everything changed six years ago, and Hendricks was relegated to nothing more than a memory for Story. But when her past catches up with her present, she finds herself back in the village where they both grew up.
For Hendricks, Story returning to Valentine Nook brings back equally painful memories, ones he tries his hardest to ignore while being the best father he can to Max. Something made all the more impossible when Story becomes Max’s substitute school teacher.
No matter how hard they try, seeing each other is unavoidable.
Then the Valentine Nook Valentine Fair is announced, and they’re both nominated for the committee. Soon they’re working together - as friends - but with all the love in the air it doesn’t take long before the lines blur. And their relationship changes once again.
Both of them are determined to make up for their mistakes, but when baggage from Hendricks’s past resurfaces they have to decide once and for all what they want their future to look like.
And whether this time around they’re stronger together than apart.

MY REVIEW
Right when Hendricks needed his best friend Story, most, she ghosted him. It's been years since he's seen her, but now she's back in their small village, and even worse, she's his son's teacher. He can't exactly avoid her like he wants to if he has to at least sometimes, drop off and pick up his son from school. Maybe, instead of avoiding her, he can become her best friend again. Now that they've been voluntold to work on the Valentine Nook Valentine Fair together, they need to be civil, and being friends will make things easier for everyone. But he's always had stronger feelings than just friends for Story, and those feelings are still very much present.
Story never told Hen why she left town without a word. But she's back now, and she knows he's still mad at her. Being his son's teacher just may mean that the two of them will have their time. She can say her piece, and Hen can forgive her. Then they can both move on. Right? Or wrong, because there are still feelings in the air, and Valentine Nook's residents are determined that Story and Hen air everything out and tell each other how they really feel, how everyone always knew they felt.
Oh these two...I could feel their yearning for each other, both in their flashbacks and in the present. I wanted to hug them both, while simultaneously smacking them to just TALK TO EACH OTHER! But though I was rooting for them in their past, Story was right when she told him their time hadn't been right at the time, they had to become the people they are now in order to come back to each other and be in the right mindset. I adored every word, every second they pined for each other without letting the other know. Thank God she came back, because I can't think of a sweeter, more perfect for each other pair of best friends than Story and Hen.
