A love they thought they’d lost. A lie they can’t take back. A second chance to get it right.
Katerina Luna knows better than to fall for a pop star—been there, done that, got the emotional damage to prove it. For ten years, she’s steered clear of the tattooed bad boy who broke her heart, except when she’s writing romance novels inspired by him. And agreeing to manage his band’s comeback tour. Oops.
Beckett Hayes regrets nothing more than letting Kat walk away. Then his brother jeopardizes the band’s reputation and Beckett moves in to do damage control—by telling the paparazzi that Kat is his fiancée. Now he’s got one month to keep the press away from his brother’s secrets, help Kat secure her end-of-tour bonus, and prove he’s ready to be her real life book boyfriend.
With her future—and heart—on the line, Kat can’t afford to blur the line between fiction and reality. But as each tour stop brings them closer, Beckett is determined to make Kat see that only the best love stories get an encore.
The Encore Effect is a standalone, spicy romance between a brooding pop star and the curvy woman he never got over. Perfect for fans of early 2000s boy bands, road trips with only one bed, and dirty-talking heroes in a steamy fake dating romance with a guaranteed HEA.

MY REVIEW
If not for the big bonus she's promised if she can keep them out of the gossip headlines, Kat never would have agreed to manage this tour for her ex's boy band. Now she's in close proximity with Beckett and his band, and though she promised herself she'd never let him get to her again, she's finding it hard to resist him. Having to fake an engagement to further keep Beckett's twin brother and bandmate, Jackson, from being in the headlines for his increasingly bad behavior, is making her and Beckett's latent feelings come to life again. But it has to stay fake so Kat can grab that bonus - the no fraternization clause in her contract means those real feelings are very forbidden. Can she keep her heart intact and achieve the bonus? Or is a second chance more important than her career?
I have to be honest right off the bat - boy bands are not, and never have been, my thing. The only boy band I've ever liked is an old school one that probably only my Gen X and older generations will recognize (New Edition), so the pop star/boy band aspect of this story doesn't do anything for me. But, the story itself is good. Kat is a romance writer who needs money and her broody, emotionally constipated ex is the boy bander Beckett. I also have to be honest that I didn't feel that bone deep connection between them a lot of the time throughout the story, but in the end, their love did withstand all their obstacles and truly shone for the first time. As second chances go, this one is a mixed bag, but leans toward the good end of the spectrum. I like the banter between all the bandmates, and I am intrigued enough to want to read the rest of their stories.
Meet Cara Dion
Cara Dion writes steamy, contemporary romance, often with a forbidden or age gap relationship. Her debut series, Love Song, was released in 2023.
Voted “most likely to write the great American novel” by her middle school classmates, she has been writing for as long as she can remember. Cara has a master’s degree in English Literature and has been a high school English teacher, professional musician, and nonprofit administrator.
Cara has always had an overactive imagination and spent much of her teenage years watching 80s and 90s romcoms with her aunt. When she’s not reading or writing romance, she loves cooking, Broadway musicals, and watching reality dating shows.
Cara lives in a small town in New England with her husband, son, and very demanding cat.
